Error Pages on Presidential Campaign Websites: 07/15/2019
Errors happen. For websites, rarely seen 404 error pages often include humor. Joe Biden's error page capitalizes on his love of ice cream and trains. Michael Bennet, Steve Bullock, and Jay Inslee incorporate outdoor activities and sports in their error pages. Both Cory Booker and Pete Buttigieg appear pouting in photos on the error pages on their respective campaign sites. Seth Moulton's site uses animated gifs featuring other individuals sharing the same first name. Both Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren include video: Bernie Sanders' site uses a video of him without links to any other parts of his site. Elizabeth Warren's site embeds a Saturday Night Live clip with calls to action to volunteer or donate. A graphical representation of Andrew Yang appears on his campaign's 404 page and a donation request.
Not all candidates utilize humor on their 404 error pages. Some candidates provide a generic error message and links while several candidates do not seem to have configured any kind of error handling on their political campaign sites.
