Original Policy Content on Presidential Campaign Sites: "Gun"
Inspired by a series of CNN tweets capturing Democratic Presidential candidates' policy proposals related to guns, the websites of many of the most-discussed candidates were searched using Google for the word "gun."
Methodology
Each political campaign website was searched using Google on August 5, 2019. To limit results by campaign, the operator "site:" was used along with the word "gun."
The results shown below may not capture all relevant pages: A newly added page may not yet have been indexed by Google, a page could be tagged with a "noindex" instruction to prevent indexing, content could be included in a graphic, etc.
False positives may also have been returned. A website could include the word "gun" in the meta description, but not on a page.
Throughout the test, the browser's cache was repeatedly cleared. Signals like location were not obscured and may have impacted Google search results.
Since not all candidate sites include a readily accessible search feature, Google search results were not cross-referenced with what a candidate's site "thinks" it has related to the word "gun."
